Pilot Program for Curbside Food Waste

The City of Buffalo’s Scrap It! Curbside program started as a pilot food scrap curbside collection program funded with a grant from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. This project period was for a one year period.

The City is utilizing a private contractor to collect and process the food scraps. Farmers Pirates Compost, LLC collects weekly food scrap totes on your regularly scheduled garbage and recycle day.

UPDATE: The City of Buffalo has been awarded a Climate Smart Communities grant from the NYSDEC to expand the Scrap It! Curbside program! If you are interested in participating, please sign up to be on the waitlist on the Farmer Pirates website and a brown tote will be in your near future!
